Free Washer and Dryer

So, for those who haven't heard the saga, the city of Pasadena decided that the overhang on the side of my house (which was there when I bought the house, and based on the age of the materials used on it, I'm confident was there when the previous owner bought the house) was built without permits and posed such an extreme safety hazard that it absolutely, positively had to be torn down immediately or my house wouldn't be able to have its occupancy permit. (I'm told that's because a ground-level covered overhang obstructs fire egress.)

Of course, that overhang is where my washer and dryer hookups were. Note the past tense. Yes, they had to come out, too, because it's illegal to have a washer and dryer on an uncovered porch or patio.

Now, the reason the washer and dryer were on the side patio is because there's no room for them inside the 750-square-foot house. Nor are there any other exterior locations that are both feasible and legal. And so, I now have a washer and dryer looking for a good home.

They're mid-'80s era G.E. units. The washer is a top-loader, the dryer is gas. I bought them from a friend who'd had them in storage, and the repairman I had do the "disuse repair" on the washer commented that G.E.s from that era were built like tanks and should keep running for another twenty years. They're not particularly efficient by today's standards, obviously, but my only complaint with either unit has been that the washer sometimes dumps a little water if you're doing a load with very little clothing relative to the water level. As long as you're not installing it on a moisture-sensitive flooring material, it should be fine. If you've got a basement or exterior laundry hookup that needs machines, these are free to the first person willing to come take them away.

Drop me a message if you're interested. Also, please feel free to let friends of yours who may be interested know. With all the people we collectively know who are giving up renting in favor of buying a foreclosure, I'm sure there's someone out there who could use a couple of serviceable units to get them through the home ownership transition period.

I'm posting this in a couple of different places, but I'll try to post an update when they're gone.
