So I was over Sara's tonight and watched a few shows then switched to Bravo and I was fortunate enough to catch my first ever episode of Project Green Light. While a decent idea (besides having Ben Affleck who looked like he was drunk) for a show, I was amazed at how corporate america (a very general term) has once again ruined something with potential and as well as ruining the lives of the people it somehow comes in contact with.
Also for Future reference Wes Craven is on the board of elections here and Matt Damon
The episode starts off with three 3 scripts narrowed down from thousands turned in. The three chosen are flown to LA where they go through a ONE TIME interview process and are then narrowed down to 1 in terms of their work. By the way, none of the ideas are really described to the home viewer, so you basically end up knowing the genre of the film, but with hardly any plot. Hurray for Reality Television and its sketchy presentations. They decide to pass up the other two scripts which sounded much more interesting and went with a really bad horror flick called Feast. The Plot: Two guys are in a very secluded Texas Roadhouse on the side of some highway, when all of the sudden flesh eating monster (no visual ideas yet except that they have teeth...) appear and all hell breaks loose. Can anyone say Dusk Till Dawn During the discussion on which movie to pick, the corporate executives (all young guys) decide to go with Feast. Their reasoning? Because it will make money cause its a dumb but somehow humorous attempt at a film. Disgusting. Did I mention that they are working with the company Dimension Films Known for such Stellar releases as the Scream Series, and Spy Kids? All the while during the decision process Matt Damon, had a bit of sense and told those bastards off but ultimately had no choice in the final matter. The Best line was "You are literally sitting two seats away from the master of horror Wes Craven and he is telling you this movie sucks"
So after all that nonsense they do the same process with 3 directors the first two are very enthusiastic and have great ideas for this movie. The third guy fumbles and staggers through the interview literally saying about 10 words, it was pathetic. Damon wants the idiot guy and I think somewhere in the back of his mind he wanted to get back at these guys for making a terrible decision. His vote somehow persuaded them to pick this guy, and they chose him above the other due to him being so crazy they thought he might be the right person and visionary for this film. I tend to think it was to ruin the film and I hope it does.
In conclusion this show isn't bad at all, I enjoy it and I kind of want to keep watching the show just to see how bad the outcome will be. All in all watching it tonight made me realize the ever so apparent truth to how any company seems to work. My compnay does the same thing, they try to say its for the consumer, but in reality it preying on peoples low intellect and down right caveman like tendencies by making something so bad look so good and because it made profit more and more and more of it keeps coming out. Its the same with my job. There are so many bad games there, and yet people still seem to buy them which creates more bad games and has since ruined the whole market with the exception of 25% of what comes out being better than average or above. Just so difficult working for such scumbags.
