Every once in a while, you stumble on something and its effects on you are immeasurable.
Back in April I stumbled on a story in the Detroit News about Miles Levin. An 18 year old high school student at Cranbrook near Detroit who suffered from a very rare and very aggressive form of cancer.
The story wasn't so much about the cancer, but with what Mile's had decided to do with his time left, they were giving him 6 months to a year.
Miles had started a blog through a website sponsored by the hospital he was being treated at (I'll link below) that had readers from all over the world. He was also featured on AC 360 on CNN
here's a link.
This guy had a gift for writing and conveying things that I could only dream of having. His outlook, his composure and his faith in people were well beyond his years and helped me to put a great many things in perspective as I got caught up with his blog.
You see, as I started reading about him, a very close friend of mine was finishing up his chemo from cancer that he found out about last fall. As much as I found it hard to believe that my friend, who wasn't even 30 yet, was fighting for his life, here was a kid that wasn't even 20 yet. I thought I had some idea what my friend was going through. After reading Mile's journal I realized I didn't have a clue.
Miles just wanted to make it to prom with his girlfriend, which he did. He just wanted to graduate with his friends, which he did, along with sharing commencement address honors with Bob Woodruff (the ABC anchor who had been injured in a roadside bomb blast). He wanted to make a difference and he did.
Miles died early this morning. Keep him and his family in your thoughts.
I highly recommend spending some time reading his Blog and what he had to say. Go to
Carepages, click on the "Visit a Carepage Link" and type in Levinstory.
