Sigh.  So I missed at least two more of my friends’ books that were out this week.  I plead squirrel brain.

David B. Coe’s novelization of the new Robin Hood [B&N | Mysterious Galaxy | Amazon] movie is first up.  Coe posted at SF Novelists about the challenges of doing a work like this.

Also out is Janni Lee Simner’s latest YA title Thief Eyes [B&NRead more... )

Yes, that: schedule writing time just as if it is your day job, when you quit, because that's what it will be. All the other chores and everything then have to work around that.

I thought about this a lot too before I actually quit my job, and lo, it does work this way. :-)

Yep. It's one thing to daydream about writing full time, but there's an awful lot of thought and planning that has to go into it if you're going to make it work.

I don't know if I'll ever get to the point where I can make the jump, but I'm hoping one of these days...

I hope you get to the point of being able to do it. But not the way I did. :/

I swear our weeds love the liquid death.

"Mmmm, Roundup! Yummy!"

It kills the week, but the strongest weeds come back ... meaning we're just accelerating the breeding of the superdandelions that will eventually conquer the planet.

Of course it's a great book. All of my friends write great books. Because they are brilliant! :-)

(Okay, I haven't actually read Thief Eyes. Too many friends with too many books. I haven't even caught up with the stuff they were putting out five years ago. Sigh. Stupid talented friends, flooding my to read list...)

I don't get to write full time, but I am home full time, so I know exactly where you are coming from. For me, it's the days my wife has off, or when the kids get off school early (or are off all summer; or get sick) that throw me the most. While I don't scheduled a set block of time for writing (my life isn't that organized), I've gotten into a pretty good rhythm in terms of getting things written. Either it's right after I've dropped my youngest one at school, or right after lunch, until I have to go pick up said same kiddo ( ... )

What you say is so true. I've scheduled myself from 11am to 2pm everyday for writing. I may do some at other times but that's my "do or die" block. I don't work outside the home either and I find that if I schedule myself early in the morning, I don't get anything else done that day. If I schedule myself for late afternoon, my brain doesn't want to work. Being your own boss is difficult.
