Looking Back

I vaguely recall coming across something like this before. Don't know if it was a meme or just a random entry, but what the heck. Feel free to play along if you're so inclined.

1 year ago ... I was starting to freak out about the release of Goblin War, and griping about the upcoming SFWA elections. (Ironic, that last one...)

5 years ago ... I had been married four whole months, and was still trying to figure out how grown-up relationships were supposed to work. Fortunately, my new wife was very patient. My daughter was only three, but still highly cute. Goblin Quest had just sold to Five Star, a small press. I still had long hair at this point.

10 years ago ... I was finishing up my Masters degree in English and finding creative ways to mess up my romantic relationships. By this time I had gotten the phone call from Writers of the Future (yay!), but novel publication was still a dream. I had just been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

20 years ago ... I was in ninth grade, and despising it. (Some might say Jig's treatment in the goblin lair draws a lot from my experience in Junior High School. Fortunately, my life improved the next year.) I was still doing Boy Scouts, though I was starting to withdraw. I think I was planning to be a psychologist at this point.

30 years ago ... I was almost five. I had just gotten glasses the year before. (Click for photographic proof of my early geekiness.) My family had moved to Michigan. Excitement included catching grasshoppers and toads in our lawn. I think I would have been in pre-school. Ironically, my pre-school teacher was the same woman who would teach my daughter many years later.

40 years ago ... was 5 years Before Jim.
