Past Self,
It's now 2020. There is a global pandemic. Our US Democracy may very well be subverted. The attempt is all but assured. The Police are under heavy protestation due to routinely killing black citizens with no accountability. While many are out peacefully protesting, declaring "Black Lives Matter," the Karens and Chads of the world are chanting "All Live Matter." Then agents provocateur came. We briefly descended into the spiderman meme, until the bullets started and people were getting run over. It was all on social media. Our President blames anti-fascists and calls KKK members "Good people." Family members have started to buy into conspiracy theories that their is a secretive and powerful cabal of pedophiles run by global elites from the Democratic party and Hollywood. But our President is the one pictured with the alleged ringleader. He's conveniently dead, by the way. Not the president. I'll leave out the armed militias roaming the streets or secret federal agents grabbing people and throwing them into unmarked vehicles. I mean, how much are we supposed to take in an opening paragraph?
It might seem callous to be referring to the president this way. I'll frame it for the 2013 crowd. We have over 200,000 dead Americans and our President refers to this as the "Kung Flu" that affects virtually nobody. He is on tapes speaking with Bob Woodward about how it is very deadly. On Tape. The same guy that exposed Nixon and Watergate. We have a new teflon Don. His supporters are so self-insultated in the propaganda, that you have to marvel at the efficacy of the tactics. If anyone ever asks how an autocracy starts, I will be able to say with experience, "both slowly and swiftly."
Politics has devolved into a fanbase, devoid of any constructive debate. Both sides are guilty here. Not much different than asking someone how they feel about the Yankees or the Patriots. For or against. By the way, the pandemic is still happening. We haven't left the house in six months. They expect about 150,000 more deaths in the next couple of months. Also, Halloween is cancelled. Have I mentioned the people who won't wear masks because it's an infringment of their freedom? That's going on too. No shirt. No shoes. There literally was no problem. Now it's a problem. I love a good normative debate, but I envy the students who get to take this class in college right now. Virtually of course, except in states loyal to 45. Unironically, the same effect on college student health as Colt 45. Part of me is sad that we didn't see this coming when Luke Wilson released the "Idiocracy" documentary.
