Some There Are Who Call Me, Um . . .

What do you call blegs on LIVEJOURNAL?? Despite our generally creditable performance last night, Players To Be Named Later need a name sooner. We've done a lot of brainstorming, but the name we ourselves liked best out of the long list, Blank Slate [Something], Gary doesn't consider suitable as a permanent name.

So, any suggestions gratefully

Coming up with a perfect name for an improv group is one of the hardest things in the artform. It's probably best to have an imperfect name and then commit to it harder than you'd think would be possible. My own troupe, Rockwell 9, was so-called as there were nine of us in the class that met in a conference room at Rockwell Automation, the employer of someone in the class. I started out pretty much hating it, but someone broached the idea of changing it only after I was out of pocket fifty dollars on promotional materials.

You could always use a pun, or a combinatorial form of "improv," or be yet another "Scared Scriptless," but I like improv troupe names that are like band names, inscrutable but intriguing. If there's a line from rehearsal that makes you all fall out, that's a good start.

(A fellow Rockwell 9er just came up with "Benign Appeal," which I think is kind of short-formy.)

Actually, I would suggest sticking to "Players To Be Named Later"; it's sufficiently dadaist and suggesting of improvisation on its own.
