East Hampton (WTNH) _ Former Governor William A. O'Neill passed away at his home in East Hampton.
O'Neill was governor from 1980 to 1991, serving two terms in office.
In a statement released about O'Neill's death Governor Rell said:
"Bill O'Neill was one of the titans of Connecticut politics. No description of him would be complete without the words 'decency' and 'fairness' and he understood that government must take its lead from the people it serves."
There is no word on the cause of death, but O'Neill did have multiple health problems.
Governor Jodi Rell has order that state and U.S. flags be flown at half-staff until the date of Governor O'Neill's interment, which has not yet been determined.
