Well, my new modem has been delivered. My "old" (I'd only had DSL a matter of months) DSL modem died suddenly, and I'd been without home internet access for the better part of two weeks, during which time I was dependent on the public internet terminals at the Culver City Library and at Kinko's.

In the process of pestering Earthlink to deliver my new modem, my telephone landline has finally been fixed, so I can receive calls at my (310) 841-5916 number again. That had been on the blink literally for months. But since I didn't use the land line very much, and I am now paying LESS for the landline and DSL with Earthlink than I was for just a landline with AT&T, I procrastinated going through the hassle of getting Earthlink to fix it. (And it did, indeed, turn out to be a pain in the rear getting it fixed finally this week.) But it's fixed now. Yay. The worst part of my having procrastinated so long is that Earthlink provides a free voicemail service which remained active even when I could not receive calls, so I know I've got a pile of messages from people who probably think I received them. I haven't quite mustered the courage to check them all yet, but I know I have to. Sigh. Totally my own fault.

Lastly, I should mention that before my modem died a couple weeks ago, and then again last night, I have gotten into the bad habit of logging onto AOL and then going to sleep, leaving it on all night with no away message (I used to do this all the time because AOL was my main browser, but since getting DSL, I use Safari for browsing and AOL just for email). So, I don't think anyone has tried to IM me while I was asleep, but I don't think I would actually know. So.
