so, this weekend i went to chicago for my uncle rich and new aunt nannette's wedding, here's the story...
i got home froma dissapointing night at beach club around 4 am. i woke up for the long drive 3 hours later at 7. my 3 brothers and i crammed into the back of our caravan, gasping for air basically the whole 6 hour trip. we got a luggage rack for the top of the van, but since my brothers don't understand the concept of not bringing everything they own along, space was tight. i brought 2 thing, my cd's and my cd player. i slept most of the way, switching to my cousin's car 3/4 the way there. the trip wasn't as boring as i would have originally imagined, which is good. in the car with gil, jaime, and jackie (my cousins), we played a few games, many of which i ruined. there was one where everybody would guess what was in a certain truck or building. when it came time to guess what was in the water tower, i guessed "water" while everyone else argued "vanilla pudding" or "marshmallows." although i quickly ruined the good vibe, i knew i was right. another game, i predicted the time we'd make it to chicago. i guess 4:38:30, and to my surprise, i saw my first glimpse of chicago (the sears tower) at 4:38. i'm the next david blaine. anyways, after getting seperated from my parents car, being amazed by how crazy chicago is, driving through a building, and drinking a gatorade, we arrived at the palmer house hilton hotel. holy shit, this hotel was the crem de la crem, or "the shit" for you stupid people reading. the front lobby was gold as far as the eye could see, the ceiling looked like the sistine chapel, and the statues looked like something i would steal if i were a museum robber. that was a dumb analogy, but it was nice. my family was on the 16th floor. holy shit, our 2 rooms rocked. they were huge. together, we had 4 king size beds, 4 bathrooms, 2 tv's, 4 seats, and a great view. i actually had my own bathrom...in a hotel. i even got my own room key. we met up with family, did the usual, etc. i walked around with my uncle john, going to harry carry's and driving in my first cab. it was exciting. anyways, during that short walk, i pretty much memorized where everything was, and was the map of chicago for everyone. that night, we walked to the dinner down the street. after passing 4 walgreens, all on teh same street, we arrived at "athena," a greek restaurant. to my dismay, there were no gyros but other kinds of greek food. nanette is greek and introduced all of the young's (that's my side of the family) to greek food. i was the only one who ate most of it at my table, maybe because most of it looked gross. i ate what i was told was strawberry ice cream, but was really salmon eggs. that was not a happy moment. i ate fried fedded cheese, which looked like pizza, but defintely wasn't. the main course, chicken k-bobs and rice was good. i also drank all of the red wine nobody else would drink. i think the only reason i drank so much of the red wine was because the white wine impaired me from tasting gross things. hence me eating greek food. that was a joke there. anyways, me, andy, chris, ryan, and jaime went out taht night to walk around chicago. since we couldn't go to any bars, we went to some cool outdoor exhibit things. after that, we walked to navy pier, which is a mini, mile-long amusement park designed to make your feet hurt. it was a 4-mile walk to the pier from the hotel and about the same back. i got a good night sleep that night. i was so tempted to steal my hotel's pillows, but supposidly they charge for taking them.
i woke up saturday, and went to the sears tower with andy, jaime and chris. we waited like an hour before going up. it was sweet, we could see everything in chicago and everywhere else 50 miles away. at 2:30, a half hour before the wedding, i realized that i had a white shirt for the wedding, but no undershirt. i quickly ran to cvs and bought one for $1.99 and ran back to see everybody leaving. i got dressed quick, sloppily did my hair, and took off for the wedding. it was held in st. patrick's catholic church, chicago's oldest public building. it was really nice inside, very irish. since my side of the family's irish, we felt at home. ummmm, yea. the entire inside was white and had celtic designs everywhere. the place looked sweet and the benches were wavy. the wedding was cool, but shorter than i imagined it would be. after the wedding, we went back to the hotel to prepare for the reception. we all got onto a shuttle which would take us 20-miles away to a country club for the reception. the young's all got together for a group picture with the photographer on the golf course. good times were had. the reception had good food, a bad dj (oldies, oldies, will smith), alcoholic beverages, dancing, and lots of people. my 10-yr old brother nick stole the show, busting out his random dance moves, even when nobody was supposed to dance. since my mom was in the wedding, it was especially embarrassing to watch her son doing 540 spins while dancing as the cake was being brought out. at least he didn't run into it. nick was the life of the reception, playing drums on all of the silverware at his table until it got too annoying to handle. he memorized the whole starsky and hutch dance scene and did it during michael jackson's "billie jean." it was really funny when we made a circle around him, and he ran away and came back, sliding on his knees and opening his jacket. i t was hilarious. he ran away again, pretending to eat from the desert table, and randomly ran back, doing it again. it was funny as hell. a bunch of my cousins and i also dared my brother justin to go in the corner of the stage and run his hands down his back like he was making out with someone. who would have known he would have done it for 3 minutes straight in front of everyone. at that point, my cousins and i were crying laughing. this is all a shortened story, but it was fun.
sunday morning, i hung out with my family, walking around with my dad as everyone else went to the sears tower. we walked for a few miles, going to fancy chicago stores like "coconuts" and "mcdonalds." we picked everybody up and walked to the "magnificant mile," which is michigan avenue's giant street of stores. there's a few malls, an apple computer store, nordstrom, urban outfitters, virgin megastore, and more. my parents were looking for the espn zone to eat, and after pointing them in the wrong direction, i went into virgin to buy some cd's. i walked a mile down michigan avenue, buying some cool clothes, before realizing i didn't have time to shop and that the espn zone wasn't on michigan avenue. my mom called, pissed of course, when i told her that espn zone was on ohio street. my bad. i ate subway, which was better anyways. the drive back was long and boring, and we were in traffic in chicago for an hour before getting out.
also, as i walked with my dad i saw of lights that looked like movie lights. the entire street of wacker was filled wiht movie lights, and i was determined to find out what for. i stumbled across a hidden parking lot and found trailers, and set props. these props included swat cars, cop cars, prop cars, and tons of lights. the cars and license plates all said "gotham city." it was than and there that i shit my pants and took lots of pictures. i'll post them on here as soon as i figure out how. i got pics of bruce wayne's building int eh new movie, his bently, all the "gpd" cop cars, the swat cars, taxis, soon-to-be-blown-up cars, and all that. i'm a papparazzi. the new batman movie will be sweet. anyways, that's it for now. i'll post more when i think of it.
