It was 20 years ago today, January 31, 1992, and the white whale, the mighty Guns 'n' Roses, were coming to the new Compton Terrace in Chandler. When the date for tickets to go on sale was announced I arranged to have the day off so I could make sure I got my tickets. Then, with three days or so left to the show, I won a pair of extra tickets off 98 KUPD. These tickets also came with a ride on the KUPD big red double decker bus to the show. When we got to the show (rode on the top level of the bus of course) I got lucky enough to sell the extra pair of tickets at face value, which was cool because it meant I could afford a concert t-shirt. The opening act was Soundgarden, and they were solid. Then, after the requisite hour-plus wait for Axl to come out on stage, Guns 'n' Roses were awesome. As good as I thought they would be and moreso. I would only get to see them live one more time (also awesome).
Friday I finally mowed the lawn LOL. Sounds like a normal chore, but I had let it go for a few months. The bermuda was not only quite high, but full of crap that had blown or was thrown there. I only wanted to do the bare minimum, take down the worst of it, but two hours later I was covered in dust and drenched in sweat and it was all done. I truly hate being outside and hate yardwork, but I am glad it is finally done. Less to worry about and all. I have gotten city complaint letters before and would prefer to avoid the citations.
