For something he'd been convincing himself wasn't a date, Jim found himself increasingly nervous. Two days had passed by quickly, and he'd been admittedly distracted since the moment she left. He had a decision to make. For all he knew, it could very much be the wrong one. The only thing he had left was to trust his instincts, and he felt like that had pointed him in a direction to take.

After leaving Sam with her babysitter, he put together something akin to a meal anyway. He was almost glad he didn't bump into anyone, because walking out of the compound with enough to feed two people might raise a few eyebrows. He wasn't about to keep it a secret, but he really didn't want to answer any questions just yet.

He set something simple up on the small table in the hut, then sat down on the chair, fixing the collar of his shirt. He waited, then. For all he knew, she might not even show up at all, and he wouldn't have blamed her.
