Being English, Susan didn't exactly celebrate Thanksgiving, but she wholly approved of the spirit of it, especially here. When Jim and Pam had invited her and Jon, she had explained the premise of the holiday to Jon, including the part about the United States being a former British colony. He'd seemed a bit perplexed about that until she'd also explained that was over two hundred years before their time.

At any rate, she arrived at Jim and Pam's a little before Jon did, since they were right next door (though Ghost, knowing something was afoot in the food department, had a head start on his master and tagged along with Susan), bearing a plate of lemoncakes. "A peace offering," she said with a giggle, "from the English to the Americans."

Jim turned at Susan's voice and snorted, taking the plate of food from her.

"We're doing a good thing here, Susan," he teased, leaning down to pet Ghost on the head with his free hand. "Years of fighting between our countries are just melting away because of us."

"Yes, it's a very good thing," said Susan. "My appetite thanks you." She laughed and added, "And so does Ghost." Ghost butted his head up against Jim's hand and eyed the food interestedly. "People first," Susan told him sternly.

"Jon'll be along in a bit," she told Jim. "He wanted to go ahead and finish up his patrol route after I told him that anyone eating Thanksgiving dinner usually ends up in a contented food-induced stupor afterward. But we're both very glad you invited us."

"It should be thanking Pam. She did most of the work. Not that I didn't try to help, mind you. She said something about not wanting to blow up the kitchen," he smirked, shaking his head. He glanced down at Ghost. "Don't worry. You know Pam's going to sneak you a plate of your own soon."

He nodded in response with a chuckle. "Yeah, that's completely fine. And I'm glad you two decided to come. It means a lot to both of us."

"It means a lot that you asked us," said Susan. Jim and Pam were among their closest friends on the island. "We wouldn't have missed it for anything."

Ghost eyed the food again, and realising that he wasn't about to get any anytime soon, trotted off with a baleful red glare at Susan, presumably in search of Pam.

"How have you been?" Susan asked Jim.

"Pretty good," he smiled, glancing over at the group. "Glad everything ended up coming together alright."

"Being English, I've never celebrated this holiday," said Susan thoughtfully. "But I think I shall have to, from now on. There is a great deal to be thankful for here on the island."

"Yeah, I know exactly what you mean," he agreed. "It's a little sad not having my family here, but I think this group here is pretty close to making up for that."

"Oooh, they look amazing," Pam said, taking the plate from Susan and putting it out with the rest of the food. She turned back to her and wrapped her up in a hug.

"Happy Thanksgiving."

"Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Pam," said Susan, returning the hug. "Everything looks delicious! You and Jim went to an awful lot of trouble."

She let go of Pam, stepping back to look at everything. "Jon will be along in a bit - he wanted to finish his IPD route first before coming down. But Ghost insisted on coming along with me. He was quite insistent." Speaking of Ghost, he nosed at Pam's pockets and then rubbed his head affectionately against her leg, demanding petting.

"Oh, great. Well, there's plenty of food, so he should be able to get his fill when he gets here," she said.

When Ghost started to nudge against her thigh, she squatted down a little and ruffled his fur. "It's nice to see you, too." She dropped her voice into a stage whisper and continued, "I'll have a full plate for you later. Promise. Maybe even some .. bird bones."

Susan laughed. "Sometimes I forget that Jon and Robb are still teenagers, really; and then I see them eat and I'm very much reminded of that fact." She said this with great affection, but it was true; Jon, especially, definitely had an eighteen-year-old's appetite.

Ghost's ears perked up at Pam's mention of food, and he licked her face enthusiastically, wagging his tail. He seemed especially affectionate today, and it made Susan grin. "You're supposed to eat the food, not the hostess, Ghost," Susan teased.

"You and me, both. I wish I could eat like that and not worry about gaining any weight." Though, I could not eat a thing and still gain weight these days.

Pam giggled and tried to dodge his licking with poor results. "You're too much, Ghost," she told him, standing up and brushing her hands against her thighs.

"I heard Arya's wolf had puppies," she said to Susan conversationally. "Soon we might have more wolves than people."

Ghost sat down beside Pam and looked up at her expectantly. Susan couldn't figure out what he wanted, other than food, perhaps, but he wasn't hurting anything so she let him be.

"Nymeria did have puppies, yes," said Susan. "I got to play with them the other day - they're so cute! And Arya says I can have one - I can't wait."

Pam gave Ghost a curious look, but dropped her hand back down behind his ears to pet him gently.

"Ooh, that's exciting. Have you come up with a name yet?"

"Not yet," said Susan. She grinned sheepishly. "All the names I can think of seem all right for the cute little ball of fluff she is right now, but would be just silly for when she gets bigger." She stuck her tongue out at Ghost. "Especially if she turns out as big as this one here."
