Thirteen days ago, I set out to write the first draft of my Traps screenplay in no more than two weeks.
Today, I wrote The End on page 93, leaving me an entire day to revise and polish before I have to e-mail the script in (by no later than the end of the day tomorrow) so my assigned mentor has sufficient time to read and analyze it before the Latino Writers Lab kicks off next Wednesday in New York.
And, since the average screenplay nowadays runs 90-120 pages (each page in standard screenplay format representing approximately a minute of screen time), also leaving myself plenty of room to add new scenes based on the feedback I expect to receive at the Lab.
In any case, I know now that, if need be, I can turn out the first draft of a feature-length screenplay in as little as two weeks and that if, along the way, I should get stuck on what should happen next - as, indeed, occured on numerous heartstopping occasions - I will somehow figure out how to get the story unstuck.
I can't say it hasn't been a bitch at times, but it's been an exhilarating ride.
