Pinn's Adventures

Prologue

Once Upon A Time…..

There was a young man named Pinn, who lived with his father in a small Italian village. Pinn was lazy, and spent his days loitering at the Fuoco Marionette Theater in town, instead of helping his aging father carve furniture for his shop. His father, Geppetto, knew he’d spoiled the boy, but his mother’s dying wish was that Pinn never want for anything. Geppetto could deny his love nothing, in life, nor in death, and so he promised.
So while Geppetto toiled away, Pinn waited in the alley behind the theater for Giovanna, the Marionette Maestro’s daughter to sneak out and meet him in between performances. Their kisses were few, as the performances were many. People came from far away towns to see the Maestro work his marionettes. The posters proclaimed them, ‘So lifelike, you will swear they are real!’ Whispers around their village told the story of his ‘lifelike’ marionettes, saying Fuoco was an evil magician who cursed those who crossed him, turning them into puppets.
Pinn scoffed at the silly superstitious townsfolk as he kicked at loose bricks in the alley, waiting for Giovanna each day. He turned his head when they scolded him, telling him he should be home learning his father’s trade and easing the old man’s burden. Pinn was young, and had no intentions of working himself into a hunched old shell of a man like his father had done. He had his whole life ahead of him, and now was his time in the sun!
When Giovanna finally met him in the alley, her face was grave, and she had no kisses for him.
“I am to marry the magistrate’s son next month; my father has arranged it all! Oh, Pinn, what shall we do?”
“He can no more make you marry someone than my father can make me work in his shop!” Pinn answered, taking her into his arms. “We shall leave this place, and they shall never find us! We will be like the four winds, blowing where fate will take us. We will see everything this world has to offer. We will show them!”
They kissed then, being too young to understand that such an adventure would take a great deal of money. Pinn had none, and Giovanna’s father kept a tight hold on his purse strings. Their hands roamed freely as their lips met with such passion, that they didn’t hear the theater door open behind them.
“Giovanna! You common tramp! I promised you to the magistrate’s son, and you flit about from man to man like a fairy? Get back to the prop room! I shall deal with you soon.” Malfiso Fuoco then turned his attention to Pinn while his daughter ran back inside the theater.
“And as for you, you worthless, lazy waste of skin, you shall pay dearly.”
