For years, Swindon's main borrowing library was a small, shabby, shoddy, shifty, substandard shack [grandly titled a Portakabin, as if that made it any better], but now it's all over and we have this!!!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/wiltshire/content/image_galleries/swindon_new_library_gallery.shtml BTW, does anyone else have trouble pronouncing the word "Portakabin"? When i first saw it as a wee girl, I used to think of it as Port-take-a-bin but later, I heard it pronounced as Port-a-cabin, which makes sense 'cos it's a portable cabin isn't it? But I still call them Port-take-a-bins!! It's the old scone [like "bone"] Vs scone [like "gone"] debate all over again...**
I'm a working class scone-like-bone girl meself but my middle class ex-spouse isa scone-like-gone lad. Any thoughts from the kaleidoscope of social class out there in LJ land?
