Random question; my German instructor is insistent that Germans don’t eat garlic. If this is the case, has it always been so, or is there evidence of garlic being used in older recipes?

Yes, I believe I did see it in a recipe - mebbe more than one. I'll look for evidence for you. Mebbe tonight I can post the woodcut of some herbs (like the bread one I just did) that has the garlic on it with the commentary. I'll take a look at the Lustgarten too which might mention something specific about its use for food outside of medicine (there's definitely a section on it). I think it is listed in the cooking veggies section of the book. The medicinal herbs are listed separately.
