Interesting how this topic is starting to reveal its ugly underbelly:
People Fear Starvation, While Biofuel Companies Continue to See Dollar Signs... People in other nations are rioting, fighting for their food like never before, and even in the U.S. some are beginning to hoard and ration food items like rice, for fear it will become a hard-to-find, priceless commodity (and it already has in some places). We've already seen it with increased prices for something as simple as a pizza pie, due to wheat crops being swapped out by farmers in favour of taking advantage of the hot corn market right now. Granted, farmers are accustomed to struggling with the ever-changing consumer demands and occasional freak acts of nature that get in the way, but some are just plain taking advantage of the situation. But the truth is it's coming at a greater cost, long-term wise.
It's just sick...sick. But, would we expect anything less? And can we really do much about it, given the amounts of money wasted on pointless wars, and amid political corruption? I'm thinking not much. Something has got to change, and it's not really even within the common man's power to do anything about it. (Well, not when the government essentially dictates what can and can't be done, going along with their own personal agendas.) Scary.
But if it's any consolation, I'm pretty sure the Good Lord Himself has His finger hovering over the "delete/panic" button, He's just waiting to see what the human race has in them first. Can't help but wonder myself...but just a little afraid of what is to come. @_@
