OK so WTAF happened today? Some awesome stuff, that's what. Today was QF day in Shanghai, and some good things are finally starting to happen. Though in theory Shanghai should have been awesome due to the lack of Fed, Murray and Roddick, it really wasn't. Seems like most people agree with me that this tourney has been rather boring and even depressing, what with the time difference, the retirements, and the non-existent crowds. Honestly, I get sick to my stomach seeing all those empty seats. Shanghai is a pretty huge city, where are all the tennis fans hiding? In Falcon's attic?
BTW, BalloonBoy drama was hilarious yesterday, and I can't believe the kid's name is Falcon. Now this balloon kid and Nole are forever intertwined in my mind. Pfffft.
I need one of these shirts. Except I wish it was smurf blue with a little wing design on the back.
I'm really getting the hang of this lj cut thing. Check it out:)
1)BenneJo is in the Final!!!
I'm soooo happy about this one. They started out the week taking out Llodra/Stepanek, who are very good dubs players. Then they sent #1 seeds Daniel and Ziki packing. Amaze. Today they beat the #3 seeds (Bhupathi/Knowles) in the semis. Allez to that! Jo's an amazing dubs player, and he and Julien seem to have great communication. I saw them practicing together in Miami a few times, they have a lot of fun. <3
(This is an underrated bromance, ppl!)
2)The BrokebackMountainTennis match(aka Gilles is back! Well, kinda.)
So in the hottest match since Berd/Gilles yesterday and until Rafa/Feli tomorrow, Nole beat Gilles. Of course Gilles is my favorite player, so I was rooting for him. I knew he was going to lose, but I wanted him to make a match out of it. I wanted something like their Shanghai semifinal match from last year, which was dead even until 5-5 in the 3rd when Nole broke and served it out. And I did get something similar, so I'm happy.
Gilles is getting back to his 2008 form with his win in Bangkok and his showing here. Sadly, it's too little, too late for this year. He's about to take a huge dive in the rankings when he loses his Madrid 2008 final points this coming week, he'll be out of the Top 10 for the first time in 2009:( Oh, and Soderling is going to be #8. Whatevs, good on him.
The play was pretty high-quality and very entertaining, mainly because Nole and Gilles are both very expressive on court. Nole smashed a racquet in Gonzantic fashion which was a highlight. In the third set, no one could hold serve. The 1st 5 games were all breaks, hence the "BrokebackMountainTennis." It was getting to be pretty hilarious. And now all I can think about is which one is Ennis and which one is Jack. Help me.

3)Uh, duh, SuperFeli is in the semis!! Feli Prayer Circle, Anyone?
I can almost hear the "squeeee"s of all my fellow fangirls (and boys) right now <3. I don't know how this happened, but it's amazing. I was so used to my fellow lefty losing on outer courts in early rounds, I got giddy when he signed the camera lens today. I was all like, "oh, Feli can still sign his name, yay!"
He's playing Rafa tomorrow, let's hope he makes it competitive! I don't want him to make it this far just to get steamrolled :/ (BTW I love Rafa, but I'm on Team SuperFeli tomorrow, someone has to be. Being on Team SuperFeli means being on Team Nando, so that's that.)
I'd give anything if Nando was in the crowd tomorrow, srsly. Ugh, can't they at least have him live via satellite on the big screen during the whole match or something? XDDD Like a "Nando Cam," omg that would rule.
So cute and so happy! I think it's the facial hair. It has powers beyond our understanding.
