So, I'm just gonna post the email I just sent out rather than writing something new. I'll write new stuff later :)
Hi! So, I'm finally here and able to write. I don't have internet in my room yet, they say it'll be a couple weeks so I'll try to get on a couple more times before then. So far everything is good. I got in yesterday morning only to find out that my apartment where all the teachers live wasn't ready yet. Supposedly it wouldn't be ready for three or four days :( The director rented a room for me at a local youth hostel (only used by students studying for the major exam they take, so very quiet), about 20 minutes from the apartment, but within walking distance of the school. Well, needless to say, it was a bit lonely. I spent most of the day in my room watching movies and playing games, but I did take two walks. I was too chicken to go into a Korean restaraunt by myself for the first time, so I ended up eating at McDonalds for my first meal :( Funny, that's almost exactly the same thing I did in England. Anyway, today we had our first orientation, which was really good. I really like the two new Korean teachers that are starting at the same time I am. We also watched a class in session. The kids are soooo smart! I couldn't believe how well they spoke. Anyway, after we were done my director told me that my apartment was ready! I was very excited. I finally got to move in. It's a little tiny place, about the size of a pretty small bedroom at home (but it's a bed, a kitchen, a desk, and a bathroom). But atleast it's home and hopefully I'll be able to start meeting the rest of the teachers now. It is so crazy being in a foreign country, and when I say foreign!! I've never been somewhere where I couldn't atleast kind of get by in the language with the little bit of french/spanish I speak. Also, I've never really been the "minority" which is an interesting experience. People stare at you everywhere. This morning I was putting on my shoes in the lobby (you leave your shoes outside your room) and I turn around and there are three women in the doorway just staring at me. It was very awkward. Yesterday in McDs a guy wouldn't stop talking to me and ended up asking me to live with him (in his "very big house, I promise). Anyway, I'm a bit worried about him, cause he saw on my paper I was reading where I work and said that atleast now he has a way of getting in touch with me. Yuck! I'd really rather him not. Anyway, I'll write more soon. I should get going now! Love you all, Jillian
P.S. I have a phone in my room!!! Call me! The number (with country code) is 82-2-9110768. Hope to hear from you soon. :)
