Chapter Two: Stupid Promise

“You mean my fiancé is a GUY??” Jin and Kazuya said in unison again. Making the other people to look at them in surprised. This made Kame and Jin a little embarrassed, so they apologized quickly and tried to calm down their selves.

“Well, isn’t this a surprise, right Naoko?” Kame’s mother said to Jin’s mother, acting so innocent.

“Yeah it is. I didn’t know your son will be my son’s fiancé,” Jin’s mother said. The two ladies laughed while playing innocent about their sons’ engagement.

Kazuya and Jin looked at their mothers and can’t believe that they lied to them. Jin started to be annoyed to his mother’s antics.

“Mom, you said I’m going to be engage to a sexy and beautiful woman. You didn’t say that I’m going to be engage with man and besides I’m not a gay,” Jin said to his mom in displeased voice.

Kazuya looked at Jin and sighed deeply. He knew that being angry will not solved this silly problem.  He faced his mother and said, “Kaa-chan, could you please tell us about this engagement you’re talking about. And please, tell us that this is just a big joke”.

Kazuya’s mother was about to answer when Naoko, Jin’s mother interrupt. “How come Kazu-chan call his mom Kaa-chan and I’m not,” Naoko pouted. “Mou~~ I envy you, Hitomi-chan. I want Jin to call me like that too. Jin~~,” she looked at her son in a pleading look.

Kazuya and his mom looked at Jin’s mother. They are surprise at the sudden act of her. They don’t know what’s got into her.

Jin is starting to get annoyed to his mom’s issue being called ‘mom’ instead of ‘Kaa-chan’.  “We talked about that awhile ago. Why are you bringing it up again? And why are you making that issue so big?” Jin said, controlling himself not to shout in anger. He sighed, trying to calm himself and continued, “Mom, I’m not planning to call you ‘Kaa-chan’ anymore, so please, please drop that issue once and for all. And let’s focus on the issue that your son is facing now. Please, explain to us everything about this ‘engagement’ you are implementing”.

Hitomi, Kazuya’s mom, laugh and said, “Oh, Naoko you’re still wishing that Jin-kun will call ‘Kaa-chan’. Jin, don’t mind your mom. She was still childish as she was before you and Kazu-chan were born.  I know how hard it is to deal with her sometimes.” Naoko pouted on what her best friend had said.

“Mou~~, Hitomi-chan is so mean,” Naoko said.

“Hai, hai,” Hitomi nodded. “Anyway, about your engagement… well, it’s really true and we are NOT joking,” she added, looking at the two boys.

“What?” Jin said. “Look at us, we are guys and we can’t just be a couple that easily. And you know that now one will allow a same sex marriage,” Jin said it in the calmest tone as possible, even though he’s in the peak of shouting.

“Dear, we know that it will be hard for you to accept this but it’s been decided by both of us. And about the ‘no-one-will-allow-a-same-sex-marriage’ thing, we are now in the generation where everyone is being accepted by anyone. So, there will be no are problem about it and besides we are not going to let you two get married without knowing each other first,” Naoko explained to the two young man.

Kazuya’s father suddenly said, “Hitomi and Naoko made this promise when they were in college-”

[Flashback]

“Hitomi-chan, do you think we can still be best friends after we graduate?” Naoko asked, while walking backwards facing her best friend.

“Hmm… of course we will, why did you ask?” Hitomi asked back.

“Well, since we are going to graduate soon, we might separated our ways,” Naoko answered.

“I see, but we can still be best friend even after we graduate. So there’s no need for you to worry,” Hitomi said as she stopped walking.

Naoko paused from walking and think for a minute. Hitomi became curious on what her best friend was thinking. “Nao-,” she was suddenly cut off by her best friend.

“I knew it!” Naoko said happily.

“You knew what?”

“Why don’t we make our future children to get married?” Naoko said happily.

“Huh? I don’t understand you, Naoko,” Hitomi doesn’t know what came into her best friend’s mind.

“Ok, I’m going to explain you in the simplest way. Your child and my child are going to get married in the future, get it?” Naoko clarified.

“Why?” Hitomi asked.

“Well… hmm… so that… we… can surely know that we are still best friends even though years had passed by,” Naoko said with a wide grin plastered in her face.

~*~

Hitomi sighed and placed her hand in her forehead, this is too much for her to handle. Naoko is in her childish mood again. She and Naoko have been friends for ten years. She knows Naoko very well and treated her as her sister. Naoko is a very energetic and cheerful young lady. And sometimes, she can be very childish when she started to want something. She does childish actions, like pouting or whining or doing puppy eyes, to make anyone fell pity for her and allow her to do anything she wants. Hitomi manage to tolerate Naoko’s insane behavior even though it makes her annoyed sometimes.

~*~

“So, are you going to agree or not?” Naoko asked.

“Well… what if our children have the same sex?” Hitomi asked back.

“Hmm… if our child turns to be girls… well… I think they could become best friends like us,” Naoko said.

“And if they are both boys?” Hitomi asked again.

“Well… they can be come good friends also, but I guarantee that they won’t. So, why not let them get married. I think it will be fun,” Naoko said and then, she giggled excitedly.

“Is that even legal?” Hitomi asked.

“Well, in the future maybe. Oh, you know how fast the world change. So I think by the time when our sons would be grown up, the same sex marriage will be legally accepted,” Naoko said.

“Ah, I see,” Hitomi said as she nodded.

“So, are you with me into this plan?” Hitomi asked.

Naoko nodded and smiled. They do their secret handshake as a sign that from that they on, that no matter what happened, their children’s future have already been decided.

[End of Flashback]

“-and I think that explains everything,” Kazuya’s father said as he ended his explanation. He explained everything Kame and Jin needs to know about cause of their engagement.

“You really have a good memory, dear” Hitomi said to her husband as praise for his sharp memory.

“Yeah, no wonder Hitomi doesn’t complain about you forgetting your anniversary,” Naoko said as she laughs. Naoko and her husband laugh also.

Jin raised his eyebrow and said, “So, it’s your fault?” as he looked at his mother.

“Well, partly yes but Hitomi-chan also agreed, so basically Hitomi-chan has a fault too,” Naoko said.

“But, Hitomi-san will not agree to you unless you make that stupid promise,” Jin said to his mother.

“Hey! The promise we made are not stupid. And besides, like what I have said awhile ago, we are not going to let you two get married until you have deeply known each other,” Naoko said.

As Jin tried to argue with his mom, Kame faces his dad and asked, “Dad, aren’t you going to stop Kaa-chan and Naoko-san?”

“I tried, son, but since you’re mom is happy about it, I can’t disagree no more,” his father said.

Kazuya sighed and asked himself, “Could this day get any worse?”

“And since we want both of you to know more about each other, it’s been decided that both of you will live in one house,” Hitomi announced happily.

Jin and Kame widened their eyes. They didn’t know what to say. It was too sudden for them to swallow such shocking news.

“How could they do this to us?” Jin and Kame said their selves in unison.
