At work i have been on a specific team since Oct 05. I have been working this position and have gained new responsibilities over the last yearish. It's been good experience but a couple of months ago i knew i had to ask for compensation. I had some help from an ex-co-worker. After dragging my feet for so long i set up an appointment with my boss' on tuesday of this past week. I asked them to have my position reclassified, which was an indirect way of asking for more money. They agreed it was a good idea and asked me to write up a paragraph stating what i am doing now that qualifies me for reclassification. I spent the next two days at work figuring out what to submit to my boss' I sent it out at the end of the day on Thursday. i didnt know if it was what they wanted. i got some assistance from my friend Chris, the ex-co-worker. Friday afternoon i got a call from my boss asking me to come over to their office at the end of the day. i was a little nervous that they were going to tell me what i wrote up for them was off target or i needed to clarify things better or something just negative. HOWEVER, it turned out to be great. They said they were able to get my position reclassified, i got a raise, and a bonus! yusss! I am really glad this worked out and i only had a few days to stress over it. AND the best part is that i get to continue to do my same job and get paid more! i do, however, hope they give me some new responsibilities, but at least i have some money for a big car payment and maybe even a laptop---still deciding on that one.
