[Rodney - genderswitch]

Jan 18, 2009 19:13

It wasn't often that Jill let herself truly sleep in. More often that not, she was up with the sun, heading up to the Compound for a cup of coffee and a trip into the lab. She and Rodney rarely woke up at the same time, but every now and then she found herself wanting to sleep in. Just a little. It was comfortably warm in Rodney's hut and Jill ( Read more... )

Rodney's favorite mornings were ones where Jill slept in long enough for him to start to wake up, and this was one of those mornings. As awareness started to trickle in, he smiled as he realized she was there still beside him, a warm weight next to him on his orthopaedic mattress. He shifted onto his side, pressing against her, and reached out to touch her stomach.

His hand traced the lattice of her ribs and upwards, and a very interested third party started to make itself known as his hand continued towards a breast. Or where a breast should have been. Instead he felt flat hard muscles and...hair ( ... )

"Jesus Christ, Rodney," Jill snapped, her eyes flying open as Rodney started to freak out, seemingly without reason. Flipping over on the bed, she watched as he fell off the bed, still shouting, his voice echoing and resounding through the hut. It was giving her a headache.

"What the hell is..." Oh. Well, that wasn't her voice at all. Looking down at herself, Jill pushed back the sheet, finding both a hell of a lot less and a hell of a lot more than she was used to finding. She had chest hair and her breasts were gone. "This is... I'm a man. Oh, God, am I Cameron again?"

Rodney, whose mental faculties were considerable, took approximately a minute of gaping to work out the situation after 'Sheppard' spoke. He stared.

"Oh my God," he croaked. "Oh my God. You're Jill. You're male Jill. You're...this is worse," he finished dully. "This is worse than being Mitchell. Oh my God," he repeated, stunned.

As a man, his girlfriend was John Sheppard.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Jill asked, hands flat against her chest, trying to hide the chest hair for some absurd reason. "I'm not..." She wasn't switched into someone else's body, that didn't make any sense. If that had been the case, she would've woken up in another bed, somewhere without Rodney.

"Holy shit, I'm a man," she said, answering her own question before her hands flew to her throat. She recognized that voice. Reaching up, she touched her face curiously, then higher, touching her hair. "Holy shit, I'm John."

"Holy shit," Rodney agreed. He closed his eyes and put his hands over his face. When he took them away and opened his eyes again, Jill was still a man. Jill was still John.

He groaned and flopped onto his back on the floor.

"Why am I a man?" Jill asked, sounding dangerously close to whining. Pulling the sheet up, she wrapped it around her shoulders, then pulled it free again and peeked down at herself. "What the fuck is this? How is this fair? I not only have to be a man, but when I'm a man, I look like John Sheppard? No offense meant to him, of course, but this is screwy."

That felt like an understatement and Jill flopped down onto her back as well, her eyes squeezed shut. "Jesus Christ."

Rodney wished the ground would swallow him up right about then. Unfortunately, it didn't, and he was left still lying on it with his eyes determinedly closed.

"I hate this island," he decided. Monster trucks couldn't make up for this.

"Oh, thanks," Jill muttered, pulling the sheet up over her head. "Like this isn't bad enough." It was a stupid thing to be bothered by, but it stung a little bit to hear Rodney say something like that. Maybe she could just lie on the bed and hide under the blankets until she went back to normal.

Actually, that was probably a bad idea, because Rodney would just end up avoiding his own hut for the next three days. "I'll have to wear a fucking blanket just to get home."

"I mean, I hate what it does to people," Rodney elaborated after a moment. He'd known John long enough to be able to recognize hurt in his voice, even if it was currently Jill's voice. He shuddered, but somehow managed to lift his eyes to the man - woman, currently a man - on the bed.

"It's okay," he told her. He was determined to keep thinking of her as a her, despite the body. "You can borrow some of my clothes for now, and I'll...go ask John if you can borrow some of his. Until this is over and you're back to normal." He got up and sat on the edge of the bed, tentatively. "You okay?"

Peeking out from under the blanket, Jill was dangerously close to pouting as she shook her head. This was worse, somehow, than being in the body of another person. At least in that case she could blame anything weird on the other person's body. This was her body, though.

"This sucks," she said finally, sitting up and pushing the sheet back a little. "I mean, I can accept waking up in Carson's body, but this... I don't know."

"Technically, uh, it's your body," Rodney pointed out. "Just...male I think I need to throw up."

He got up and staggered towards the door.

"You're not even dressed!" Jill shouted after him, still surprised to hear John's voice when she spoke. It was different, it was still her voice, but she sounded enough like him that it had to be noticeable to anyone who knew him. "Rodney, Christ..."

So she'd made her boyfriend want to throw up. Now that was something she'd never done before.

Thankfully, Rodney heard her before he opened the door. He stopped. "Oh," he said. "I guess I should...do that."

He turned around slowly, the corners of his mouth pulled downward into a grimace as he faced John- Jill.

"Sorry," he said. "This is all just a bit much. I mean, you look like Sheppard. A man I've known for five years now. My...best friend, for lack of a better term," he added sourly. "And you're my girlfriend. So, uh, excuse me if I'm having a bit of a personal crisis right now." He went to get some clothes on.

"Right, because you're the only one having a personal crisis," Jill answered, then rubbed her hands over her face, remaining where she was for the time being. The last thing she needed to do now was get up and traumatized Rodney further by showing him more of his best friend's body than he wanted to see.

Running a hand over her chin, she could feel the light scratch of stubble, which caused an unsettled shiver to go through her. "Are you going to avoid me until I turn back to normal?" she asked.

Rodney huffed as he finished pulling on pants and zipping them up. "No," he said. "Avoiding you would also involve avoiding Sheppard, as it's a little hard to tell the difference right now," he pointed out. "Unless you flatten your hair some."

He located a shirt and pulled it over his head, then turned to J - to Jill.

"Sorry," he said, belatedly. "I'm just a little..." he made a nonspecific gesture, indicating just how freaked out by this whole thing he was. It hadn't been so bad with Mitchell. He didn't like Mitchell. But he liked John. Just not the way he liked Jill, and now Jill looked like John and - ugh. He was going to do his best not to think about it, he decided.

He found a shirt that looked as if it might fit as well as a pair of shorts - he drew the line at letting Jill wear his underwear - and handed them over. "They might be a little loose on you, but at least you'll be...not naked." He grimaced again.

"I'll spend the next few nights at home, don't worry," Jill muttered, taking the clothes from Rodney and looking at them for a moment. She'd worn men's clothes before, having been stuck in Carson's body and then Cameron's, but this was still different and strange.

"Thanks," she said, then looked up at him with a faintly expectant expression. "Do you want to turn around maybe? Like you said, I'm still naked under here and... well..." She trailed off, gesturing vaguely as well.
