Canada has hosted two other Olympics in the past, 1976 in Montreal, and 1988 in Calgary, but no Canadian has ever won a gold medal on Canadian soil - until now. Today Alex Bilodeau of Quebec took gold in the Men's Moguls.
I'm so thrilled and I feel proud to be Canadian - Colin and I were jumping up an down and cheering when we watched the run on our tv. I hope it's only the first of good things to come. (Only one more day to go until I'm down there myself!)
Three medals so far (we collected the complete set, whoo) we took silver in Women's Moguls, which was a bit disappointing because we were a strong contender for gold - but I saw the winning run by the US athlete and she definitely deserved that gold medal. We also scored bronze in Women's 3,000 m Speed Skating.
BTW, Happy Valentines Day/Year of the Tiger everyone! :D
