This has probably been the best Christmas I've had in years, despite having to work for all the days leading up to it.

For the last several years, it's been me, the table top tree that Bob knocked over in the night, and nothing underneath it. Go over to my mom's house to say merry Christmas and exchange absolutely nothing; we're both too dirt poor to give each other anything, and we both feel awful about it. Go to the Gardner family Christmas, the one small highlight of the day. Come home and read livejournal and get unfairly angry and resentful because all my friends are still basically children and get loads of toys and loot and cash, and don't have to struggle to keep the heat on or their rent paid.

This year I woke up with my extremely small but extremely awesome family (Alisa and Bob), the best present I could ever really ask for, and came out to our brand new 7 ft tall fully decorated tree, loaded stockings, the works. A shit ton of cheaply bought presents from Amazon and half.com, the majority of which replaced all the things we sold or pawned earlier this year (Twilight Princess! :D) when we were still struggling for the money necessary to keep a roof over our heads. Made a nice dinner to take over to Mom's and share with her and Reese, as well as (practical) presents for everyone to open.

It was the least depressing Christmas I've had since I moved out of my moms house.

We got each other some nice books and games and movies and other small things to enjoy, Bob got lots of treats, and we practically got a whole new kitchen from our collective relatives. A beautiful set of Corningware casserole dishes and Tupperware from my Dad and Kim, a full T-fal pots and pans set with glass lids from my mom as well as a deliciously retro cake set handed down from my great-grandma for Alisa, a gorgeous Kitchenaid mixer from Alisa's grandma, a butcherblock and cooking tool set for me and a huge frosting tip set and cake turntable for Alisa from her parents.

The Gardner's are convening on Jan 2, a day neither of us can get off, which sucks, but I think we've made up for it.

So hey. Happy day after Christmas. I hope it was a good one. May your heat stay on and your bills stay paid, if you have them. May your car still run, and may work not suck completely. May you be employed and healthy. And if you are one of the ones fortunate enough to be able to blow your parents' hard-earned money on toys, may you get something totally fucking awesome in honor of those of us that can't.
