I almost forgot-- or more properly, almost successfully blocked this event from my memory.
I had my first real knitting disaster this weekend. I had
Bella on the futon between
wayward_va and me while we were watching movies, and at one point when I sat down, I managed to pull one of the fronts (I'm making the cardigan version, and knitting both fronts at the same time so that they're exact mirror images of each other) off the needles and rip out at least one row, possibly more. I hadn't put in a lifeline, because the lace is simple enough that I wasn't having any trouble keeping track of where I was. Stupid, stupid me. I *think* I managed to get all the stitches back on the needles and seated properly, after much cursing and concentration, but I still have to count rows and get it to match the other side before I continue knitting them. *sigh* Reminder to self: they call them 'lifelines' for a reason! Use the damned things, even if the lace is simple.
After I got it back on the needles, I couldn't bear to look at it again for a little while, so I used the excuse to start my Tina Shawl. I would just like to say that Jaggerspun Zephyr is quite possibly the most wonderful yarn I've ever worked with. It's soft and very easy on the hands despite it's fineness. I expected to have difficulties managing yarn-- especially yarn with a significant silk content-- that thin on (relatively) large needles, but after the first row or two, everything settled into place and the knitting moved very quickly. I finished one entire pattern repeat (16 rows, 113 stitches) of the center section. And I *will* be putting in a lifeline after every pattern repeat on this shawl, thankyouverymuch. 8 1/2 pattern repeats to go on the center section, and then the challenge begins.
