http://www.ww2australia.gov.au/asfaras/angels.html Two of the originals marched in today's Melbourne ANZAC day parade. It was lovely to see them in traditional costume, their best pig tooth necklaces on, walking proudly.
Without the help of the native New Guineans, Japan would certainly have taken the North of Australia. Interestingly, because New Guinea was an Australian Territory until the 1970's, none of the Aussie troops who fought and died there were considered returned servicmen until very recently.
