Antique Cars Abounding
Yesterday, Andrew and I went to History Park, down at Kelly Park, where the Santa Clara Valley Model T Club was holding a car show. It was much more than Model T's! Not only did we start out viewing all the wonderful devices of the Early Engine Society, who were running everything from antique washing machines to band saws off early engines with belts, but there were simply amazing other vehicles as well, including a 1941 Hook and Ladder Fire Truck, with looong wooden ladders.
Some personal favorites:
The chain-drive horseless carriage from 1906, that I watched the owner prime and start with a crank starter. It had a lever-steering mechanism!
The 1921 Pierce Arrow, in midnight blue. Ultimate sexy ride!
The 1904 chainless bicycle, which used a drive shaft.
Model A race cars.
1933 Auburn town car.
Various utility vehicles from the 1920s.
The multiple-bench-seat wood-framed Depot Hack, 1911, I think.
1924 Ford Taxicab
1928 Austin, with a fighting rooster radiator cap!
Race car (can't recall the make) from the 1911 Indy 500.
We stopped and got some BBQ ribs at the market next to the park, afterward, and sat and watched amazing cars pull out, stopping at the stop light next to us, as we ate.
I don't think we saw everything. I think there were over 100 cars, and some were pulling out before we got to them.
