If you ever have any suspicion that you might be the victim of identity theft, please be sure to contact the three credit bureau agencies: Transunion, Experian, and Equifax. Ask them to place a fraud alert on your Credit report. They will do so free of charge and it will ensure that any financial institution the pulls your report will contact you first before processing any application for credit.
Its not a bad idea to contact the three agencies and have the alert put out there even if you don't think you are at risk. Its an extra layer of insurance. And we could all use that extra layer of insurance.
