Hi Everyone!
I know it’s been at least a month since the last time I updated anything. Let’s just say I spent most of April sleeping, if not, very very out of it. ;)
I’m currently in the middle of my 22nd week of pregnancy. According to websites and books, “Kiddo” is the size of a Spaghetti Squash (had never heard of them, so if you haven’t either, here’s a pic of what it looks like:

The Kiddo, on the other hand, is weighing in at about 1 pound now and looking more and more like a miniature newborn - sounds like I’m talking about a dog breed (ie. Miniature poodle, schnauzer, etc). Last Thursday I was able to finally distinguish her movements from those of food going through my GI tract. She tends to start being very active about 11p at night. (guess she takes after me, the night owl!) Last night she gave me a few very powerful “thuds” whenever my stomach made some sort of loud gurgling/settling sounds. I was able to rest Karl’s hand over my abdomen and during the next stomach gurgle she gave him a good, hard “thump”. I don’t think he was really expecting to feel anything as it took him totally by surprise. Still, it was fun to finally have him feel what I’ve been lightly feeling for the past few days now. J
And if you’ve caught the pronouns, YAY!! For many of you who haven’t heard yet, the doctor is pretty certain that Kiddo is a girl. We went in for the 20 week ultrasound and the doctor said that the three distinct lines she could see between the legs usually meant “girl”. So, since the doctor didn’t sound 100% certain I’ve been telling people it’s about 98.9999999999999999% certain that we’re having a girl. Karl and I will still have a boy’s name ready, just in case!
Otherwise, things are going here. Though my productivity slowed down greatly last month, Karl has been continuing to work through all our home improvement projects as best he can. Which is a good thing too since he’ll be gone a lot on trips for the next month! We did get the kitchen painted and are slowly working out the closet/storage coordination upstairs, the latter something we need to get moving on as a lot of close friends have already been handing over baby clothes and accessories to us. Let’s just say Karl’s “game room” is rather crowded and I don’t know if we’ll have much on our baby registry except crib, glider, and diapers! At least we got the Wii out of the way, as I promised to get Karl one for Christmas/Valentine’s day/Birthday and have finally fulfilled that promise!
Work seems to be progressively getting busier for both of us. As I said before, Karl has a few trips and conferences coming up in the next month. We’re losing someone in my office, so my workload will be increasing drastically starting next week. I will be looking forward to those “3 day weekends” with dread and relief.
Otherwise, life goes on. I continue to look at my changing body with wonder and, sometimes, fear. I’ve managed to gain approximately 10 pounds total so far and last week it felt like the skin covering my body was going to split into a thousand pieces, like I didn’t “fit” in it anymore. Morning sickness seems to be gone, though now instead of getting sick because I’m “not eating” soon enough, I’m now getting sick when I eat “more than my stomach can handle at the given moment!” XD Everything is new and strange. I find myself quietly pondering each and ever change and hope that we are truly up for this new challenge (I’m sure everything will be fine. J)
Well, since I should get back to work, I will go ahead and close this email here. Hopefully I will be more awake in the upcoming weeks and go back to updating a bit more regularly. I hope this update finds everyone well and life not too hectic.
Take care and until next time! ~j
