I think generally we (and canon) agree that the character "Superman" is made up of three parts: Kal the alien, Superman the hero, and Clark the guy

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Superman is BORING. Clark Kent is fascinating. And the One Year Later storyline was quite possibly one of the most awesome stories ever. I totally DIED at the superman luthor battle where they were just beating on eachother. awesome dialogue.
Just in case you haven't heard about it way over there in the Japanese boonies, you should Definately pick up Superman Confidential. I guess it's going to be kinda like Legends of the Dark Knight, a bunch of few-issue stories by different people. It's great so far - neat art, Superman just starting out, Clark having lots of self-doubt, emphasis on the Daily Planet. It's the first Superman comic that I've bought if that tells you anything. :) http://victoria-wayne.livejournal.com/99176.html
We just picked up issue 1 of Superman Confidential in Tokyo, actually! It does look awfully good, doesn't it...wow, the first Superman title you've picked up. *cheers*
Umumum, I think Godfall? I found the page on scans_daily, I haven't actually read the book it's from, I just really loved the quote. Sorry I can't be more helpful! :/
This why I was a little "WTF" when I read the Donner/Geoff Jhons run because their version of Supes kind of acts like Movie!Supes in the way that he thinks if himself as Kal.
I mean there's this part where he's talking to Jor-El and he tells him something along the lines of "I have lived as one of them" I mean I could see Movie!Supes saying that but not Comic!Supes he see's himself as a human!
Then after that Jor-El just goes and reminds him he's not human *sigh* but yeah other than that the arc is pretty good.

That is odd, isn't it? Writers do go back and forth on the character a lot. I just say that's part of what makes him interesting and complicated and pretend it's complexity, not poor writing. :)
It's rather a relief, really. I'm sure that's why DC works so hard at humanizing Clark, because otherwise he becomes just plain scary. Let's face it, Green Arrow? He kind of humanizes himself. :)

Oh, yes. That whole scene--and the fight before it--that'll be showing up in later posts. Damn, Clark was awesome in that scene.
