Rec: Google Docs and Spreadsheets

Oct 15, 2006 00:12

In wake of Google buying YouTube, I know a lot of people are feeling somewhat leery of it, but I just found this application today and am in awe of the possibilities: Google Docs and Spreadsheets.

You can put your work up there, then invite other people as "collaborators" and give them the ability to edit and annotate the work in real-time. As I type this, I'm going over my translation of one of rai_daydreamer's stories. She's typing in suggested changes and we're discussing what different lines mean, pretty much in real time. It probably works even better in non-synchronous time...when each person can come and add something on their own time. It would work really well for group beta-ing...let all of the people you've asked to beta a work look at the piece, adding suggestions and changes as they have time.

It's very impressive, I have to say. At the very least, it's a useful place to store documents you're working on at a central Internet location. The possibilities for betas and collaborating are rather dizzying.

Edit: Fixed the link. *headdesk*
