DCU Online to aim for female players

Oct 07, 2008 23:36

MTV Multiplayer: Have you done anything with “The Agency” and “DC Universe Online” to try to bring more women into those games as well?

Sony Online President:: We are going out of our way in “DC” because we saw that women were really the largest part of the audience for “The Dark Knight” [movie]. In fact, I heard a stat that said it might’ve been ( Read more... )

Shouldn't it say something to that guy that women flocked to see a movie that wasn't (I presume) made with the intention to "bring in more women"? Just make good games, guys, why is this hard? O_o

Game demographics aside, they should seriously make this game anyway. I think a DCU dating RPG would be like, a frillion times more amazing than all their existing movie tie-in games. Thanks for the lulz this early in the morning XD

Now I'm imagining the quest "Can you get dressed and drop off your wedding invitation on Barbara's nightstand without waking her up?" Ooooh, a challenge.

Oh, I know. What the hell. Honestly, I couldn't even think of what that might mean. Supposedly women like well-done storylines more than men? But that's not going out of your way to appeal to women, that's just making a game with good storylines. Jeez, you've got 70 years of story to work with, if you can't adapt some of those major plots into compelling online games you're totally braindead.

Actually, I would have a fun time with even a het dating sim, lol. Can I convince Wonder Woman to hone in on Clark and Lois? Will Dick end up with Kory and Barbara? It would be hysterical...

Gyeesh, honestly, only terrible things result from trying to pigeonhole that broad of an audience too hard. Of course, having said THAT, intending to pull in the female crowd with simply GOOD storylines (such a novel concept!) really beats their past attempts...

"Girls aren't reading Supergirl? Well, we could try to make her a more appealing character and give her some good storylines OR WE COULD JUST DROP IN THIS 'HIMBO' POWERBOY AS HER SHALLOW LOVE INTEREST. And make him a creepy stalker rapey type too so the payoff is that she can kick him in the balls lol! GIRLS LIKE THAT RIGHT?"

Man, you're right, even a more mainstream dating sim game for the superhero genre is bound for hilarity! XD Think of all the fun one could have trying to devise a way for your superhero of choice to impress their date! And the draaaaaaama XD

It would be so cool. SO COOL! I would gladly play an all-het version for the chance to hook Diana up with Arthur, lol...
