"Supper is served," Clark says as he sets the casserole on the table and Bruce cuts it up to share with Jason. The two of them have become regular babysitters for the Lane-White household, but this is the first time they've spent this particular holiday there.

Clark sees Jason glancing wistfully at the phone. "I'm sure your father really wishes he could be here," he says.

"Yeah," says Richard's son, moving the casserole around on his plate.

"He and your mother will be back tomorrow," Bruce says.

Jason's fork clinks against the plate. "Tomorrow isn't Father's Day."

The phone rings, and Jason jumps to grab it. "Dad!" he yells, his eyes lighting up. "Happy Father's Day!"

As the boy drags the phone into the kitchen to chatter, Bruce glances over at Clark, reading the too-neutral expression easily. "Clark," he says softly. "You know you should."

Clark's expression shifts to mulish and unhappy. "Richard is his father."

"Clark. Look at me." When Clark looks over, Bruce says, "Jonathan wasn't your father?"

"Of course he--"

"Then Jor-El wasn't your father?"

Clark doesn't say anything, but after a moment some of the stiffness goes out of his shoulders and he manages a smile at Bruce.

That evening, Bruce is reading Jason a chapter of his favorite book before he goes to sleep (he is studiously trying not to notice Jason is wearing Batman pajamas). There's a motion at the window, and Jason's eyes widen. He leaps from bed, the book forgotten, to throw open the window. "Superman!" he yells, and throws himself from the window into the Kryptonian's arms.

"I thought you might want to go for a little spin," says Kal-El, his voice warm and deep.

"You bet I would," says Jason, grinning from ear to ear. "Can I, Mr. Wayne?"

"Oh, I think I can probably trust Superman," says Bruce easily, smiling into those brilliant blue eyes.

He waits until they're out of Jason's earshot to murmur, "Happy Father's Day."
