Lois Lane 119 features an odd story that manages to combine moralizing about drug addiction with some very sweet interactions between Lois and Superman. The drug story seems pretty heavy-handed now, but I remember as a kid it made an impression in me--I was pretty impressionable. :)
Lois and Superman fall into a space/time anomaly and find themselves far in Earth's future, where they discover half the human race enslaved. The leader of "Upmen" explains the enslavement-by-drug social system and invites Superman and Lois to dinner. What could possibly go wrong?
Note to DC: Lois and Superman really just shouldn't speak in slang, even when stoned.
I do rather like Lois's jaunty "Bye-bye!" and Superman's strut there. :)
But the drugs wear off and they go through super-compressed drug withdrawal.
Note to self and other interested writers: At least pre-COIE, Superman can be affected by psychotropic drugs from plants grown under a red sun. I'm just sayin'.
I really do like their dynamic here, I have to admit.
I remember finding the 225-year-long kiss quite romantic as a little sprog.
Gee, Lois and Superman are staring right out the last panel at me! It's like they're addressing me directly! But...what message are they trying to send me? ;)
