I just wanted to thank everyone for my wonderful birthday: the fics by
merfilly,
arch_schatten,
tmelange (and
victoria_wayne's "Epilogue," when I get caught up with her arc!), and the well-wishes from everyone! I really appreciated it so much.
We're going to be moving into our new house this week and won't have Internet access from home for a few days, so I might not be able to keep up with stuff for a while (I'd love to join some discussions in
worlds_finest soon!) It depends on how much I'm willing to sneak LJ at work, heh heh. But I wanted to get up on my soapbox for a second:
A couple of years ago, I went through a kind of bad patch in my life. Nothing really dramatic, nothing most people haven't gone through, but all very wearing. I had two beloved cats die, one very slowly and painfully from diabetes; I had a seriously mentally unbalanced student who made me dread going in to work; I was required to pass a Japanese test by February 2006 or lose my job...and failed it four times in succession; and my old group of guy-geek friends from high school kind of fell apart. As a result, most mornings I couldn't be pried out of bed until nine or ten. I was exhausted and just couldn't think of any good reason to get up, most mornings.
About three weeks ago, one Saturday I woke up at 6:30, wide awake, and thought to myself, "I can't wait to get up! I have so many things I'm looking forward to doing today!" Then I stared at the ceiling for a while, then thumped DaMo and said, "Wake up! I'm happy and I like my life!" (Amazingly, he did not snarl at me much). There are lots of reasons I'm happy to wake up in the morning now (I passed the Japanese test, my disturbed and disturbing student graduated), but honestly one of the reasons has been having this set of interesting, intelligent people (with excellent taste in fandoms) to communicate with. I've never had many female friends in my life-- I always tend to gravitate to the geeky guys and I've always been one of the few geek women around--so it, well, it means a lot to me.
Thanks.
*hugs everyone, blushes a lot, and bolts for the door*
