Kamishiro Tsurugi’s early life story is unknown, for the most part. He is a 20-year-old descendant of the Discabil family in England. His story begins when he encounters Souji Tendou, and claims that he himself is the man who stands at the top of everything. Accepting this as a challenge, Tendou begins a lengthy duel of sports between the two, and Tsurugi is beaten shortly after revealing that he is the user of the Sasword Zecter. Immediately after the end of their duel, the new rider stumbles from the scene, fearing that the Scorpio Worm is near.
As Sasword, Tsurugi is considerably strong and capable of defeating worms, but he is unable to face what he senses is the Scorpio Worm. When he was younger, this specific Worm murdered both him and his sister near a field of roses, and quickly mimicked him. While the Tsurugi standing before everyone believes he survived that day, he is in reality the Scorpio Worm himself, but is too possessed by the boy’s memories and feelings to realize it. Jiiya, the Discabil family butler, is aware of his lord’s true identity, but accepts the fake, hoping that the Scorpio Worm will never reawaken.
It is unknown how Tsurugi came upon the Sasword Zecter, but once he acquires it, he is employed by the Worm-fighting organization named ZECT. In order to avenge his sister, his goal in life becomes the extermination of Worms. Through this path, he comes to encounter Souji, who develops an aversion to him after Tsurugi’s oblivious attitude puts his little sister, Juka, in danger. It was inevitable that he would eventually meet one of ZECT’s officers in personal contact with Souji, Yuzuki Misaki. The rider becomes very fond of her, as she reminds him of his sister, and he begins his awkward journey to gain her affection. As hard he tries to reveal their financial strains, Jiiya is unable to hide the fact that Tsurugi has run the Discabil fortune dry. With great determination, the lord takes a job at a soba shop to try to slowly rebuild his finances.
He continues his courting of Misaki, but eventually her patience runs out, and in order to let him off easily, tells Tsurugi that she is in a relationship with another rider, Arata Kagami. Though heartbroken, the brunette does everything he can to support the two, all with a smile on his face. However, Misaki’s plan fails and she becomes even more fed up with his unrelenting support, so she tells him the truth. In hearing this, he believes he has passed a test of proving his love for her. Kagami soon witnesses Tsurugi transforming into the Scorpio Worm, and is quick to come to his defense when Souji attempts an attack. Although the lord is not aware of the reason of Kabuto’s attack, he dubs Kagami to be his best friend from that day forth, endowing him with the nickname KaGAmi.
My canon point ends right before he is allowed to take Misaki on a date, where she sees him as the Scorpio Worm. Thus, mostly everyone is aware of his identity, save for Tsurugi himself.

Following the same sense, he has moments of extreme fear and depression when he is reminded of his sister’s death and the Worm that supposedly haunts him. In reality, the Worm has killed both his sister and Tsurugi himself, mimicking the brunette right before he dies. Because they were murdered near a field of roses, he grows to deeply despise the flower. Adding to his extreme spectrum of emotions, he has an arrogant side, which can only be expected from someone raised in such wealth. Fueling his ridiculous confidence, Jiiya, the family butler, constantly dotes on him, even though he is aware that the man before him is actually the Scorpio Worm.
Similar to Souji Tendou’s habit of quoting his grandmother, Tsurugi often quotes Jiiya. Being sheltered from the world by Jiiya and his luxurious upbringing, Tsurugi lacks the common sense and normalcy that his comrades have. For example, he does not understand why he must follow social laws like other citizens, and tends to react to everyday situations in bizarre ways. But what he is missing in normalcy, he makes up for in his determination in the things he tries. The rider spends a considerable amount of time attempting to win the affection of one of ZECT’s members, Yuzuki Misaki. As she constantly rejects him, his determination grows. He fully believes that he is a man who is able to stand at the top of anything he tries, and he regularly quotes himself as so.
As spoiled and ignorant to reality as he is, Tsurugi has a strong sense of morals. So although his first meeting with the Sasword Zecter is a mystery, it most likely has something to do with his morality and ethics. He is paid by the ZECT organization to dispose of Worms and hardly seems to care about the paychecks. This is due to him being unaware that the Discabil fortune is drying up, and so Jiiya demands that ZECT continue to pay them. Once he realizes that his wealth is almost completely gone, he becomes extremely determined to rebuild it by taking small jobs here and there. In retrospect, Kamishiro Tsurugi is a man born into wealth and raised by it, with emotions that even overpower a Worm that mimics him.

Tsurugi’s greatest strength is his endless determination and drive. Without that, his personality might not have been strong enough to overtake the Scorpio Worm that mimicked him. Unfortunately, this confidence mixed with his ignorance and lack of common sense often lands him in awkward situations.
The main weakness that plagues Tsurugi is the fact that every time he defeats a Worm, he is instantly filled with fear. He begins to shake and panic, sensing that the Scorpio Worm is nearby. At the canon point I chose, he is not aware that he himself is the Scorpio Worm. This fear ties into another large weak spot of his - his sister. Though she is dead, he has difficulty letting go of the relationship they had with each other. Girls who resemble his sister are met by him with great love and respect; such is the case with the ZECT officer, Misaki.
His spoiled view of the world, another weakness, has ruined the Discabil fortune that was entrusted to him, as a descendant of the English family. A redeeming factor is his determination to change his ways and learn about the commoners around him.

Throwing it to the wet ground, he is forced to glance at his wrist, a large symbol now gracing his skin.
Letting his fingers prod at the marking, he calmly sighed, “Must be the royal marking of this city. So it’s true, I am still royalty.” Analyzing his own remark, he stopped himself, both mentally and physically. Of course he was royalty! Why wouldn’t he be?
The rider’s footsteps echo around him as he walks in no specific direction, not yet ready to admit how lost he feels. Glancing up towards the top of the dome, his eyes meet with a small orb, glowing purple as it bobbed closer and closer to his face. He circled it, the faint light radiating on his clear skin. His face contorted into a massive grin.
“I can’t believe you’re here, Nee-san! Have… have we made it to heaven together? Have you been waiting for me all this time? If only I had known earlier…!”

His smile slowly faded, his mind forcing him to accept another possibility. With a sad tone plaguing his voice, he continued his slew of questions, “Could it be that we’ve both fallen to Hell, Nee-san? But… wouldn’t Yaguruma-san and Kageyama-san be here as well?”
Nothing was quite making sense in his mind, but he felt almost sure that this sphere was his darling sibling, there to protect him. Tsurugi continued walking, his eyes glued to his purple, unresponsive companion. For all he knew, his new surroundings were a test for him, as both a rider and lord. He was, after all, the man who stands at the top of underwater cities.
