A trial posting, really. Just me trying to figure out how this silliness works. It`s the synopsis of a project I`m looking for help on, a graphic novel. I want to write it, but not draw it, so anyone interested in illustrating such a thing, take a look inside. Warning- it is Shonen Ai, so be prepared for boy love.
The year is 2052. Technology has expanded into every part of our lives. It does everything for us; even live.
The main attraction? A super-sophisticated virtual reality RPG, Shimmer. With a massive world to explore, and millions of users all around the world to interact with, Shimmer has everything the real world does and more. And, thanks to the new Hyperpod system, the player never needs to leave the game. When you eat in Shimmer, it fills your stomach and provides you nutrients. When you sleep, it lets you sleep and dream just like normal. Life inside the game becomes just as real as life outside it. For some, it becomes a trap they cannot, and do not want to, escape.
Erik “Geko” Walker is one such player. His gaming skills stunned the planet when he won the WGA (World Gamer’s Association) tournament at the tender age of 13. Now, seven years later, he has long been replaced by the next generation of obsessive youngsters. At first, Shimmer was merely a means to escape the sad fact of his reality, and to prove to himself that he still had what it took to be a gamer. But as time went by, he became steadily more obsessed, until finally he logged in and never logged back out.
Playing as a Level 40 elfin Archmage named Galacairn, Geko has found a world in which he is respected, admired, and even loved. He never wants to leave.
And yet, he is loved in the real world, as well. His long time friend, Melody “Dee” Dan, has stuck by his side even as he slowly faded away. Unable to confess her feelings for him, and now unable to reach him at all, she is left with only two choices. Either abandon the man she loves to a game which will surely lead to his early demise, or join him within it and try to bring him back to the world in which he truly belongs.
After a little bit of research into Galacairn and his party, she creates a male human warrior, Dalamar, the precise element which the group is missing. Although she is a total newbie, and at a significantly lower level than the rest of the party, Cairn recognizes her potential and agrees to take her under his wing to teach her the ropes of the game.
As she begins to become used to the strange world which is Shimmer, Dee finds herself becoming just as engrossed as Geko is. It is so much easier to just give in and spend her days adventuring at the side of her beloved. There is no longer anything she wants awaiting her in the real world, except for the fulfilment of her dearest wish; a relationship with Geko.
But, so it seems, Shimmer can provide for even that wish. As Dal’s skills continue to grow, Cairn finds it harder and harder to ignore the strange connection he feels with the flustered warrior. Without even realizing it, Dee’s desires come true. Geko falls in love with her. Only one problem.
He isn’t Geko, and she isn’t Dee.
In a world as real as our own, where anything can happen and nothing is out of the question, where the character can become the person and the person become the character, how do you ever really know who really holds the key to your heart?
