just about everyone says her recipes are terrible. i'm exaggerating, but i keep reading and hearing people who have tried her recipes that dislike them... a lot. but i still love her, and i love her show. you couldn't pay me to *make* her food, but i would pay to watch it. her very real passion for food is apparent and beautiful; in my opinion, no other cook/chef on food network rivals it.
then again, i don't follow recipes when it comes to cooking. baking, yes. although i've become pretty good at making substitutions in baking if i may say so myself. i think i know my stuff :) but cooking...why on earth would i follow someone elses suggestions? i don't think badly of them, but i feel like cooking is a very personal thing. why would i cook if i didnt get to put the things *i* wanted to in it? following a recipe for pasta seems so un-inventive and dull. follow a technique, sure, but a recipe? i might not be making sense, but i know exactly what i mean.
i like good housekeeping cookbooks for their sheer amount of information, but not their philosophy. good housekeeping authors stress following recipes to the t. <- booorrinnnggg. nigella stresses doing whatever the heck it is you want. <- this i can handle. i don't enjoy foods because i'm Supposed to but rather because i believe they're amazing. you should do the same.
