too tired to make a real post about the RIS conference, so instead i'll talk about last night's national spelling bee.
i didnt watch the whole thing, so dont worry. it was a fluke that i even saw it (neighbor's house). anyway, it was the last 2 mini freaks of nature up on stage. an indian boy (duh...there's always at least one indian) and a brunette. the indian boy was a normal speller. ask for definition, think for a while, and slowly spell it out. the brunette was psycho. she had this weird technique of putting her hands over her mouth (im assuming it say the sounds) before each letter she said into the mic. she had a few nervous tics too, including a very sad looking frown every half second. anyway, chill indian boy finally spelled something wrong :( i was very sad. psycho brunette of course spelled her stuff right. but get this. on the last word, which she got very excited about (because she knew it), she started shrieking. I'M NOT EXAGGERATING (like i usually do). she was freaking shrieking. after the judge defined the word, she screamed EUONYM!!! into the mic. and then (it's not over), she SCREAMED EACH LETTER into the mic. and then she shrieked like a banshee some more. needless to say, i was a little horrified. girl needs some kind of medical attention.
