I donno, I thought it was well done and I learned a bit. I don't think it's that important that the actor isn't the proper ethnicity, certainly not a reason to immediately judge the movie as unworthy of your time. It's a good story nonetheless.
But image if "X" had been made with a white actor playing Malcom X...
well, that's not quite the same, since Jesus' teachings are supposed to apply beyond whatever ethnicity he was. Meanwhile, much of Malcolm X's advice is exclusionary to say the least
well, except that it undermines some of the authenticity that mel said he was going for.. apparently the languages weren't quite accurate, also? or something?
well no, you're right, it doesn't actually matter, in theory. But it's 1) the principle of it and 2) just one link in a chain of discrepancys with the christian religion (and many religions in general)

i'm not ragging on the movie, really (i'll save that for another time)... only indirectly in that it has lent much talk to the issue...
