Perhaps he might have succeeded, had Axel, a member planted by Xemnas in order to spy on Marluxia, had not learned the truth of his scheme from Larxene, whom he had tricked into believing he had been privvy to the details. Marluxia simply went with this, also erroneously believeing that Axel wished to join him in destroying the Organization. Once he had decided that Vexen had become too much of a liability, he ordered Axel to oversee his death, one way or another. Sending Vexen on a suicide mission to kill Sora off before he reached the top floor, Axel was to either kill Vexen off if Sora refused to, or to prevent Vexen from actually killing Sora if he somehow managed to win. One way or another, Axel was going to betray Marluxia, but he chose to take the order to "rid the Organization of its traitors" literally, confronting Marluxia at the top of the Castle after Vexen's death. Unphased by Axel's inevitable betrayal, he made his stand against his former conspirator, fighting him into a stalemate before Sora arrived at the top floor, demanding Namine's freedom. Marluxia turned to leave Axel to Sora's blade, stating that Axel wanted to harm her. He had his own twisted justification for his words; after all, if his plan would have gone as he had envisioned, Namine would have a knight-protector, someone who could well and truly love her.
When he was denied the re-working of Sora's memories by Namine, having finally gained the courage to stand against him and the conviction that what she was doing to Sora was wrong, he knew his plans were well and truly ended. He drew Sora into his private chambers at the highest peak of the Castle, now forced to fight him for his own survival, ultimately losing to the boy and forfeiting his hollow existance.

Personality: Marluxia is a haughty and arrogant creature, completly assured in himself and his place at the top of any particular heirachy, at least until his crushing defeat. Without his heart, he is a numb thing, driven by selfish, base instincts, mitigated by a keen intellect and sharp wit. Eloquent in the utmost, he never spares the opportunity to speak in grand, poetic terms, perhaps a given from his days as a mortal; days that have been long-forgotten and scarcely remembered.
Even though he is a selfish creature, he does, like all other high-functioning Nobodies, remember soft emotions like love and kindness. These aspects of him are rarely seen and even more rarely offered to another. While what he knew what he was doing was selfish and ultimately benefited him (which he did and still does not feel ashamed about), he did care for Namine and Larxene as much as he was able to, which was admittedly, not a lot.
Despite what others say about him, he does not spend a lot of time on his physical appearance. On the contrary, he assumes that he is perfect enough that things like that just fall into place, and often can't be bothered to make certain he is completely in order before going into public.

Biggest Fear: Marluxia would not admit to being afraid of anything. As a Nobody, he would even argue (and often rationalizes to himself) that Nobodies don't have emotions proper, so he could not even feel fear if he had ever been afraid of anything. That being said, Marluxia is afraid of being smothered. It goes beyond the very rational fear of being smothered and into a sort of claustrophobia -- if he feels as though he's been hemmed in by something, he will grow uncomfortable; if entangled by something, it is a struggle to stay calm enough to free himself. Even atmospheric conditions can cause Marluxia to be tense and on edge, such as changes in barometric pressure and humidity, which he is almost supernaturally sensitive to.
Powers:
All Nobodies can teleport to some degree, whether it's by opening up a portal through the darkness that resides between the worlds, or by being supernaturally fast, both traits Marluxia has.
Marluxia also has control over the element of wood, which he almost exclusively manifests as roses (because it just comes naturally). Given time, he could doubtlessly manipulate other plants and determine their properties, though this skill does not come quite as easily. The roses he wields in battle both attack and obscure, making it difficult for foes to hit him even as they're being struck from every direction. He also adds the roses into more mudane aspects of his life, such as a shower of petals when he is attempting to be dramatic or to underscore a point. These petals evaporate into nothingness almost as soon as they come, never leaving a trace behind.
In addition to summoning flowers, Marluxia can also summon his weapon to hand, a scythe (which looks more like a tulip than a rose) that he both wields conventionally and hurls like a bolas when trying to strike a flying or distant opponent.

SAMPLES:
Third Person:
Marluxia's senses were practically aflame as his eyes snapped open. Instinctively, he spat out the candy that had been in his mouth without even registering it had been there at all. A million miles away from where he had last lain his eyes, and he couldn't have been more displeased, if he could really admit to displeasure. If he really thought about it, he really could admit such a thing, if only to himself. It was almost like having his heart back, even if it wasn't nearly as good.
After a few seconds of gut-roiling indecision, he looked around, trying to get a sense of where he was. Certainly, he hadn't been caught by the other members of the Organization, and he certainly wasn't dead. Non-existant, anyway. Trying to get a sense of where he was in relation to the darkness between the worlds, he stopped, coming upon the realization of the darkness that cloaked his location. While not being a bloodhound for this sort of thing, like Zexion, he could sense that there was a malevolence about him that even a hardened Nobody would not take on alone.
"Tape?" Marluxia reached out to the flash of red at the foot of his bed before thinking better of it, slipping off of the worn mattress and cautiously moving to the window, steps measured and quiet. Drawing the curtain back as far as he dared, he looked out the window, seeing endless, primeaval forest sprawling behind a well, a cultivated park, and a street, perhaps leading to the town square, as if Marluxia had any interest in going there. Once he could just find his center... He'd be out of here. Closing the curtain, he moved to the door, nearly jumping out of his shoes despite himself when he heard a "crunch" under his boot, and felt something give way under the ball of his foot. Lifting his foot up carefully, he saw the pulverized remains of a cinnamon candy and recalled the taste in his mouth with a frown that was more than just contemplative. Someone had to have brought him here, someone he didn't know and perhaps that worried him more than anything else.
First Person:
(Voice)
I...
[there is a tremulous pause before the faint sound of a cleared throat and the voice continues, stronger]

I know not what you wish of me, but it seems you want me to talk, or to communicate at least. Why is it thus? Do you wish for my thanks? Or am I being punished? I cannot help what I am, nor do I apoligize for it. I exist as I always have, and doubtless, always will. If there is some sort of judgement that awaits me, I wish to know of it, even if I am to have been found guilty without representation. It is... strange, either way, that you, whomever you are, would wish to save me. If it is because I am of some use to you, please, let me know of it. I am only languishing in these quarters I have been given.

[there is another pause, an exhalation]

Why Cinnamon?

Notes:

I would like to see Marluxia's teleport ability fail him a good portion of the time, putting him into places/situations that were worse than the ones he left.
