I can't believe it is Memorial Day and how chilly it is outside! I am sitting at my computer desk with the window open and my feet are freezing. This definitely isn't what I expected for Memorial Day weekend. Nevertheless, I will take it because it provides an opportunity to turn the A/C off!
This has been a pretty relaxing weekend. Friday I took 50 seventh graders on an out of town trip to California to check out the Museum of Tolerance and to go out to the Santa Monica Pier. Overall it was okay, but the part that sucked was that the park rides at the pier were closed because earlier in the day it was rained out. They sent all their day workers home, and they weren't opening up until 6pm....by that time, we were leaving. If I do this again next year, I think I will make it an over night trip, but that might be too much. I don't know, we'll see. I posted some pics in my albums if you want to check them out.
Things are going well with the bay-bee....I went in for this test on Wednesday the 23rd where they have to measure the thickness of the back of the baby's neck (I guess it correlates to heart deformity and also with Down's syndrome), but of course my baby wanted to be uncooperative. When they started the ultrasound the baby was all curled up in a ball and the tech was like, "There is NO WAY your baby is that small right now..." So she did a little thumping and woke it up....and sure enough it stretched out a couple more centimeters. I guess the baby was tired because it was not having this lady bothering it. It was so cute, I saw it stretch out and then roll over, pretty trippy. When the doctor came in, he was like, "Well, I dont know how to say this nicely, but your child was being quite uncooperative today.." I just laughed and thought to myself well this will be a story to share later in its life. The woman "guessed" that it was a girl, but I'm seriously hoping that she was wrong.........it was still a little too early to tell. I had a dream a while back that it was a girl but last night I dreamt it was a boy, so I guess only time will tell. Sean has his heart set on the name Layla and honestly I don't really care for it. I like Olivia right now, but that will probably change in a while too. We still have 5.5 months to hash out a name. I hope to find out the sex soon regardless so I can start buying stuff. I want to pain the bedroom if it's a boy (I dont think pink/purple would suit a boy very well) and start buying things I need.
School is out next Wednesday, we have this week of "real work" and then the three days of next week are reserved for final exams. I have to work on Thursday, but other than that we are home free! So excited, but to be quite honest.....I am going to miss these kids. They have been the brightest group of kids I have had since I started teaching and rumor has it that the 6th graders coming up aren't so bright....but I will judge that when I get them.
