man, with the incredible avalanche of respectful, well-thought out replies to this post, i don't see why you would EVER LEAVE!
anyway, don't feel bad about using tumblr for your art -- it is WAY better for an artist (and in fact, i don't think livejournal was ever really good for artists, though it was quite good for fic writers and wankers). and frankly it has a weird level of mainstream respectability that lj never has (one of lj's charms, if you're so minded) -- i see all sorts of professional artists, comedians, journalists, writers, etc using tumblr as an awesome way to post about their stuffs, probably because it is slightly less interactive than a place like lj, so you have more control and a little less wank. neil gaiman was never gonna see your idris painting on lj and make a comment, you know? but he saw it on tumblr and reblogged it. that's pretty awesome
