So it was my birthday on Sunday. I turned 29. One more year till I’m THIRTY. Jesus.
My Boston pals had never been to Max Brenner, so we ended up going for some tasty dessert. Unfortunately, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was in super limited release and wasn’t hitting the Boston screens till the following weekend. Booooo. But Max was still great fun, they bought a bottle of champagne for the table and there was much chocolate to be had.
And then I got this:
SCREAM. It talks and EVERYTHING. We may have spent a good twenty minutes knocking it over just so I could hear it cry “I don’t hate you.” I named it Cara Mia for
reasons. I also got one of those DW micro figures of a Silence, but I keep forgetting about him for some reason…
I also treated myself to a new Doctor Who t-shirt (frankly, because I don’t have enough). I love the design and colors of this one, and honestly, I love it because I bought it directly from the artist and not from Teefury or any of those other shirt sites so I won’t be seeing hundreds of other people at cons wearing the exact same shirt. Call it snobbery or elitism or whatever, but I like being one of the few who has one.
My sad little Christmas tree with a Dalek tree topper. There are more ornaments on it now.
One of the projects Soup worked on won an Emmy! We learned Things about Emmys. Not everyone gets one. Only the Art Director and Producer (and maybe writer?) for this project got the statues, then there’s a second tier who is eligible for purchasing an Emmy statue for $400, and then there’s a third tier for us lowly animators who get a certificate and a pat on the back. Niiiiiiiiiice. This was before My Time at Soup (it may have been when I was doing freelance back in the day and covering for one of these jerks).
The Art Director let us play with hers. Fact: Emmys are REALLY heavy. And the wings are super pointy and do damage. AD has already received advice from another Emmy winner that a beer bottle can fit nicely between Emmy’s wings. And she did this to it yesterday for the holiday party:
So that’s an update of my world. I’m heading to California for much relaxation in a week, even though this week has been the least stressful work week ever. I’m excited that because of how the days fall for Christmas and New Years this year, the studio is giving us four paid days off. So I’m off work for almost two weeks. Not too shabby. I mean, I might be off work much longer than that come the end of January, but we’ve been taking on new things lately that gives me a bit more hope for the future. Ideally, if I could have a month off (during February), that’d be swelllllll.
