I’ve been sleep-deprived due to long hours at work for this past week, though I managed to finish all my work on time, despite me having to take a few days off for the funeral (yes, I’m counting that weekend as “work time”).

So naturally, the best thing to do is to go see a movie at midnight instead of going home to sleep on my first night off.

I had very low expectations for Toy Story 3. I have such fond memories of the first two that I knew that no matter what, it’d never hit the level of awesome that I’d like it to. And it’s been almost ten years since the second came out.

So I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It made me want to go home and hang on to any toy I may still have from way back when and apologize for leaving them behind (and then replacing them with newer toys when I’m far too old to have them).

I loved watching how gradually they all got thrashed and dirtied over the course of the movie. Pixar’s attention to detail never ceases to amaze me.

I make it a point of not reading up anything about Pixar movies so I don’t know who is doing a voice in it. That way, I can play the game of WHOSE VOICE IS THAT and then find out the answer during the credits. So I may have geeked out a bit when I immediately recognized Timothy Dalton and Kristen Schaal ← who also does a voice on WG. Michael Keaton took me forever to figure out.

It was a sweet wrap-up to a trilogy and the little girl the toys were left to was SO. CUTE. Scream. There may have been Something In My Eye at the end. Toy Story 2 is still my favorite of that franchise, but it still doesn’t diminish what I like about the other two.

The short at the beginning “Day & Night”. OH, MY. GOD. It made my little animation heart go pitter-pat. The speech at the end may have been a little overkill, but it was so much fun to watch.

But god, the trailers beforehand were so awful. Smurfs? REALLY? And there's usually another Pixar teaser and there was nothing. Weep.
