Yesterday, a handful of my lovely lady pals and I went to the
Tim Burton exhibit at MoMA and OH, it made my little animator heart go pitter-pat.
The dude (or whoever else he had come into contact with) kept EVERYTHING. He had doodles that were drawn on cocktail napkins, he had sight-gag jokes sketched out on animation bond when there was (obvious) downtime at Disney. They had films playing (including
Luau!), pencil tests, Vincent, storyboard sequences, maquettes, everything!
Then you move into the main room where all of his director stuff is and it had everything from the puppet armatures from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride and Mars Attacks! (the aliens were originally going to be stop-motion, but it proved to be too expensive, so they went with CG. HOW AWESOME WOULD THE STOP-MOTION HAVE BEEN?!) to original costumes, INCLUDING the angora sweater from Ed Wood. *dies*
PS. Catwoman’s costume does not hold up well at all over the years, but this should be obvious.
Dudes, if you’re in New York, you HAVE to check this out. It ends April 26th.
ETA. I forgot about this picture:
I'M A DEER.
