Here's something that warrants further investigation:
Last night I went up to Prost (a German pub) with my roommate. We got some beer and started playing darts, a game of cricket to be exact. We started our first game just as we started in on our second round of beer and we were both doing pretty well. Observation: one beer gives the hand a little stability, it calms the nerves.
As we started to get towards the bottoms of those beers things took a turn for the worse. The game came down to both of us one bulls eye from winning and both of us failing utterly to hit one. Finally, at the bottom of our beer, Phil managed to hit a bulls eye and win the game. Observation: two beers, it turns out, deadens the nerves. The hand becomes disconnected and unresponsive.
We couldn't just play one game so we ordered another round of beer, started over, and came to a startling realization: we were doing awfully well. We hardly ever missed and the game was over in about one half the time it took to finish the first game. There were many 3/3 scoring rounds. Observation: three beers connects the instinctive mind to the world, throwing the drinker into a Zen state; there is oneness of eye, hand, and dart.
Stay tuned for the next installment of Pub Science!: Four Beers.
