Why I hate the dentist, though I still go...

Today I had my first filling in three years. Oh joys, a crack in my tooth needs to be filled! Woohoo! No. No. No. Dentists in social situations are acceptable, but when they have you in The Chair, it is a whole different story.

I realized that it is part anxiety, part "what are you doing in my mouth?", and part "The noise", but seriously, when the chair go down and back, I tense up. My toes curl, my knees lock, my hands are clasping each other, my shoulders tense and my neck does something unworldly. And the whole time you hear the buzz of thedrill and feel the vibrations through your entire body, you think that I may die at the dentists hands but surely it won't happen with the assistant there... unless it is from a heart attack. More than likely will be from a heart attack. If it wasn't so nervous, (and since he also had his hands in my mouth) I would have asked him how many patients died in his chair? And, do you often get bitten by your patients? But no, I was controlled and civil. I didn't smack him, I didn't beat the crap out of him, and I didn't run away.

I still hate the dentist though...
