About the Death of a Talent
"One Million Star" or better known as "超级星光大道" was one of the rare TV shows that I would follow in the midst of my busy work-cum-study schedule. As in any singing competition, there would be someone you would root for. In the season that ended, Li Chu Ning (黎础宁) was one of my favourite because of her versatility and good looks. She only managed 3rd place but I still felt she has more potential than the winner for that season. But all these star dreams have come to an end when her death last week shocked many of us. It was suicide and she was only 23 years old.
Various emotions ran through my mind. First was the shock that a life was gone forever, someone whom I can put a face and name to. Second was the sadness that comes with the fact that she was too young to die. Third was the anger that she took her own life voluntarily. Lastly was the sense of awe about life itself - overwhelming yet not to be tempted with, for it can be gone forever like the flickering flame of a candle.
